NOTES

This skirt is very simple and fun to make, can be knitted in 3 hours and is stunning when finished.

(1) *4-ply Acrylic or Hobby (2 strands) may be used instead of Artistic

(2) To lengthen or shorten standard lengths, add or subtract 4 sts per inch.

(3) To avoid long floats on waistband edge of skirt, “e” wrap every other row with yarn which is not in use.

(4) The wrong side (purl side) of the skirt is used as the right side.

SKIRT

1. With waste yarn cast on required number of stitches for skirt length and knit 10 rows, the last row with nylon cord.

2. With carriage on the left, * knit 10 rows Silky Tension 3 then 10 rows Artistic Tension 6 *. A colour changer may be used, if available.

3. Repeat from *to* until 1600(1720,1840,1960) rows have been knitted. It may be helpful when picking up for the waistband to put a halfway marker on row 800(860,920,980). At this stage, the skirt will look more like a scarf!

4. Pick up stitches from first row knitted onto the needles. Knit 1 row Tension 10 and cast off very loosely by hand or preferably graft side seam.

WAISTBAND (Knitted in two pieces)

1. Bring 120(129,138,147) needles to working position. With wrong side of skirt facing (purl side), pick up half the skirt onto the needles as follows; using the triple transfer tool pick up 3 stitches from each Artistic pleat onto 3 needles all along the row. Using Artistic Tension 6 , Knit 1 row.

2. Using the single transfer tool this time pick up 1 stitch from the first Silky pleat and place onto the first needle. Leave the next needle blank. **Using the double transfer tool pick up 2 stitches from the next Silky pleat onto the next 2 needles. Leave the next needle blank.** Repeat from ** to ** all along the row, finishing with 1 single pickup. Knit 1 row Tension 6.

3. Knit 20 rows Artistic Tension 6 for the waistband. Pick up from first row knitted; there will then be two stitches on each needle. Knit 1 row Tension 10 and cast off loosely.

4. Repeat for second half of skirt.

5. Steam as per instructions.

6. Join waistband and insert elastic.
